Know The Following In Finding A Doctor Of Cataract Surgery

By Harriet Porter

The professional background of the surgeon must be checked. You need to make sure that you have at the right place. The doctor must have relevant education and training. He must have a professional license to perform the procedure. Know that not all eye doctors are allowed to perform surgical procedures, only those with the right qualifications.

Check if the doctor has a good reputation in the industry. Get some feedback from the people who have taken the medical service of the doctor. Try to find people who can give reliable feedback about the doctor's professional work. Find his past and current patients of cataract surgery San Antonio.

The doctor will later bill the insurance provider for their professional fees. The doctor can offer his services to the medical insurance companies at a special price. The doctor here is not at a disadvantage point because many patients are thrown his way because of the insurance coverage and the ties that he has with the insurance company.

Check out the many ways in which you can schedule an appointment. Your first option is to make a call to the doctor's clinic. This is the usual way that people use in contacting the doctor. Another way is to use the internet for appointment setting. The doctor needs to have a website for his medical services.

Or, the clinic that he is running must have a website. Most of the medical clinics today have websites that you can check for information. Not only are you able to check the information about the doctor's reputation and the clinic's but you can also set up an appointment with it. The schedule of availability may or may not be seen in the website.

Find out information about him on the internet. There could be information about him on the web. Type in the name of the doctor or the name of the clinic. Check with friends and relatives if they know of a good eye doctor. If they say some name, then ask if they have tried some work done by this doctor.

You can only have the checkup if you have money to pay for it. Check first if the regular checkup or the procedure is covered by your medical insurance. Most of the medical insurances cover such illness. It depends on the coverage of your insurance. If they include this condition or disease, then good for you.

The person recommending may give you the contact number of the clinic. If not, nothing to worry because you can always search for it using the internet. You can also check out the telephone book because doctors' clinics are also listed in these places.

If not, check with your insurance provider who they can recommend. A representative knows the affiliated doctors and he can recommend you one in the area. He will ask you first from where you are and he will check based on location. The names of the affiliated doctors are also arranged based on location. Consider local doctors. Checking these local doctors' background is a lot easier.

Read Your Food Labels

By Cliff Walsh

Some studies have shown that only 60% or so of Americans read the Nutrition Facts panel on food packaging and only 50% read ingredient lists. Reading food labels and ingredients lists and understanding how to interpret the information is key to making healthy food choices, and something Americans obviously need to do a better job of, given that roughly 35% of the U.S. adult population is estimated to be obese.

Try finding an ingredients list on a package. It's always on the back, side, or bottom. It's never on the front. Shouldn't it be? That's what you're buying. Not their marketing claims of "all natural" or "heart healthy", which often mean very little and lack government oversight. This is by design. The food companies don't want you thinking about what chemicals are in your food or how much fat, salt, and sugar they are loaded with. They spend millions of dollars lobbying against your best interest and information that could help you be healthier.

The Nutrition Facts panel, which was designed and is required by the FDA, informs consumers about serving sizes and provides per serving information on calories, a variety of fats, sodium, cholesterol, carbohydrates, fiber, and protein. It also shows the serving size's percentage of said nutrient that is recommended for daily intake. Always check serving sizes to see if they are reasonable compared to what you are actually going to eat. 100 calories or 5g of fat may seem fair, but if you are going to eat seven servings, it's not a realistic measure and is misleading.

There are some issues you need to be aware of. First, these percentages only relate to a 2,000 calorie diet. You need to figure out your RDA's based on your own healthy calorie intake, not the average person's intake. Furthermore, the RDA percentage is often mistaken for a breakdown of the content of the food's nutrients. It is not. A product may show a 10% number for fat, but it could be over 60% or more of the food's nutritional value (or lack there of).

While it is not always perfect, eyeballing the number of ingredients on a package can often help you understand how clean and healthy the food is. If you are going to eat processed foods, typically you will find that the healthier items have fewer ingredients. That being said, you actually need to read the ingredients list because longer lists could be all organic while shorter lists could still have dangerous chemicals or unhealthy ingredients. It's also worth paying attention to the order in which ingredients are listed, which always starts with the biggest contributors down to the smallest.

With the growth in usage of processed foods, due to convenience and lower costs, there are so many chemicals in our food today, often ones the average person knows nothing about. It pays to do your homework about every ingredient you ingest. If you're in a bind, a good rule of thumb is if you don't know what it is, can't pronounce it, and you or your spouse wouldn't buy it separately to make a home-cooked meal, it's probably best to avoid.

The marketing claims on the front of a packaged food are typically worthless. Although some of them are straightforward and have oversight, like USDA Organic or Non-GMO Verified, most others have significant issues. They are either meaningless like the "all natural" food claim, which can be filled with chemicals and additives or their is no oversight. If you want to eat healthy, it pays to forget these claims or understand their shortcomings, and read your food labels.

The Food Industry Is Brainwashing Your Kids

By Cliff Walsh

The amount of money that the food industry spends on advertising geared toward children is astonishing. Some estimate the number runs close to $15 billion a year. It's hard not to turn on the TV or go to the grocery store without seeing animated characters, toys, or partnerships with the hottest kids' movie. This is obviously done to draw their attention and create an emotional connection to the product and brand, preferably for life.

The importance placed on children is not to be understated. Not only do they impact their caregiver's purchasing habits with unfair manipulation like kicking and screaming, they will also one day be buying for themselves and their own children. It is a potent strategy that gets kids to want to buy now and come back for more. Hopefully, for decades, if the food companies get their way. Research suggests that kids under 18 see up to 20 commercials a day for food. This can equate to over 7,000 over an entire year and over 100,000 over 15 years. How do you counteract this kind of enormous influence?

I looked at some processed-food packaging in the grocery store this morning in anticipation of writing this article. The first thing you notice when you look at any food product packaging, targeted to children or not, is that the marketing claims and labels are on the front of the package and substantially larger than the actual ingredients, which are never on the front, but on the side, back, or bottom.

When you look at the marketing that is directed to kids, did you ever notice how large the movie or cartoon character is? It's usually the whole front of the box while the actual food product is non-existent or much less prominent. If we are lucky enough to see the actual food on the package, it is often photoshopped or bolstered in some way to make the food looks better than it really is, like using glue instead of milk to make the cereal "float" better.

Children are easily influenced by a wide variety of things, including advertising. Did you ever see how glued they are to the TV? When they are in this state, their brains are usually in the alpha state, which is the same frequency hypnotists use to plant suggestions in your mind when someone wants to quit smoking or lose weight. So not only are these kids being influenced many times a day, but they are in highly susceptible states, which allows the message to sink right in. I believe the responsibility of a child's health rests with his or her parents, however, these practices need to be exposed.

With such a negative influence targeted towards our children, what can we do? I recommend shopping at health food stores like Whole Foods while avoiding the average chain. A health food store typically does not have any of the really unhealthy processed foods, so you are immediately improving your child's nutrition. The packaging there is also more likely to focus on the health of the product rather than deceptive marketing practices. I also suggest taking a close look at what your children watch on TV, both the actual program and the advertisements. Some stays limit or have no commercials while others have rules about the quality of the product being advertised. Finally, you need to instill the importance of nutritious food and making healthy food choices. You child may see 100,000 commercials about food by the time they're 18. Who do you want him or her listening to?

The focus of chiropractic is on the correction of structural abnormalities that may be affecting normal function. When the vertebrae of the spine are poorly positioned it will cause nerve irritation and restrict blood flow to the neck and head region. This buildup of tension and stress often leads to the development of painful and debilitating headaches.

The performance of spinal adjustments can aid in returning the vertebrae to its original position. The result is an improvement in blood flow and will relieve a significant amount of the pressure that is placed on the delicate nerves. This provides the appropriate joint and soft tissue support to aid in working towards a recovered state.

Individuals who suffer from whiplash when involved in a car crash may possess spinal misalignment. This type of dysfunction often results in headaches and requires corrective therapy to balance the affected structures. The tissues including ligaments and muscles that are strained can be relaxed and strengthened with natural therapy to achieve a stat of wellness.

Injuries and conditions that extend the pain from the head to the limbs will respond best to alternative therapy with an emphasis on structural corrections. Exercises are developed according to individual needs for rehabilitation to ensure that the healthiest possible results are achieved. Conducting a physical exam of function can aid in determining the source for symptoms and means of relieving head pain in a supportive and natural manner.

Facts About Glaucoma San Antonio Residents Need To Know

By Marlene Blevins

Glaucoma disease is a collection of visual infections that destroy the optic nerves hence resulting to total vision loss. It might not be discovered until when it reaches advanced levels as vision impairment continues. The disease is one of the major causes of vision impairment in various parts of the world, mostly in US. However, prior to treating glaucoma San Antonio residents should first know some facts about the condition.

The cause of the disease can be attributed to the buildup of intraocular pressure from aqueous humor. This fluid is supposed to flow in and out of the eye. It normally exits the eye via the drainage system at the point where the cornea and the iris meet. The ineffective performance of the drainage in this case does not allow normal fluid filtration thus resulting to the accumulation of the fluid and creating pressure in the eye.

The condition is classified into various forms; primary for the type whose source is unknown or secondary in-case the source of the infection is known. Mostly occurring is the primary open-angle type whose signs are generally not easily noticeable except the steady loss of vision. A symptom such as peripheral vision loss affects both eyes at severe stages.

Angle-closure glaucoma has completely different symptoms. The infected person mostly feels pain in the eyes accompanied by nausea and vomiting. The patient also experiences sudden onset of visual disturbance especially in low light. There is also blurred vision due to reddening of the eye and halos around lights. Other rare types of the disease are pigmentary, developmental and normal-tension glaucoma.

The disease can be troublesome, but with sufficient management its progression can be reduced hence lowering its adverse effects. Diagnosis and treatment at early stage is thus important to prevent or minimize destruction of the optic nerve and check vision problems of glaucoma. Conventional eye examination is thus important for patients to ensure intraocular pressure checkup.

The treatment of the disease begins with the regular and complete eye examination for all adults above 40 years old. It can be done in periods ranging from 3-5 years, for persons without the signs of the illness. Screening is also necessary within a two years interval for people showing signs of glaucoma or those over sixty years of age.

Intraocular pressure, contrast sensitivity and visual fields are additional steps that constitute part of the standard care of the infection. They are therefore very vital for one to successfully manage the disease. Patients should provide full information to the physician in order to necessitate full treatment.

Occupation therapists may also help the infected persons by advancing lighting systems in their residential areas or recommending suitable equipment for use. They can also train the patients on the use of the adopted equipments. Lighthouse International or American foundation for the blind are institutions that provide sufficient resources to patients adapting loss of vision. San Antonio TX physicians will normally refer you to them when necessary.

Sharing of information regularly between the physician and the patient on the condition is always advised as it enables the physician to know the right treatment method to be used. It is also essential for one to be well informed in making healthy decisions that enhance the management of glaucoma. This will help in prevention of new infections.
